SOLITARY is offered for sale by Stuart Anderson, proprietor of AndersonBoatworks LLC of Otego, New York. I’ll have her at various Northeastern fishing and boating locations (Cape Cod, Lake George, Thousand Islands, Finger Lakes, Chautauqua Lake, etc.) during the 2015 season or until she’s sold. E-mail me at AndersonBoatworks@gmail.com if you’d like to see her.
SOLITARY is a new 18 foot Simmons Sea Skiff replica. She’s built from lines taken off an original Simmons boat in the 1950s, but she’s been completely redesigned and engineered to comply with modern Coast Guard regulations. She’s built with Northern White Ash, the same tough wood used to make baseball bats and shovel handles. All of the wood components are encased in waterproof layers of fiberglass-reinforced epoxy. She’s powered by a new 40 hp Mercury 4-stroke outboard, and comes on a hot-dipped galvanized Yacht Club trailer.

How much would a boat like this cost?
It’s a fishing boat, and I’m fishing….but to give you a starting point, if you were to buy a similarly appointed Boston Whaler, you’d probably pay in the low to mid 30s. For a unique boat like this, I’ll have to see what the market will bear.
I`m sure is more than $60.000, at least; is a pice of art. How long take you to finish it up?
Really all my respect to you, I am a carpenter and I know the work you have there.
I lofted the lines in December 2007 and started construction in April 2008, so we’ve been a couple for 4 years. My shop is unheated, so the stretch from deer season to ice-out has been down time each year, and I have several other interests (gardening, fishing, writing) and lots of family (old folks and college kids) to keep me busy year-round. I purposely did not keep track of how many hours I’ve invested because time is not an issue when trying to do things the right way. On the other hand, I can tell you to the penny how much I’ve spent on materials, tools, licenses, registrations, permits, taxes, etc.
Thanks for the photo of your work-in-progress; I remember those days of glue and clamps very well. Send another when you’re done sanding.
I am still in awe of the beauty of the wood, the design, the boats’ purpose, and mostly the art of the maker.
Wow! At last I got a blog from where I know how to actually
obtain valuable facts regarding my study and knowledge.
Mr.Anderson I’d love to own that beautiful boat, you can’t beat how much wood and old school craftsmanship is an art form , I’d love to have your talent. Beautiful boat Mr.Anderson.
Wandering around word press — I stumbled upon this page! Oh my, the face AND the boat look familiar. Did I see her on Lake George this summer with or without the builder? If you haven’t sold her, I trust you are enjoying her. She’s a beauty!
Nope, was not me. Solitary spent the season in her shed….Covid has disrupted my life to the point of not going fishing this year. Hope I’m still around to get back on the water in 2021.
Goddess willing! Stay safe.
